Naturally Common sense prevails in this as well as most areas of our lives. the first thing is don't eat meals near to your bedtime. Food takes a considerable time to be digested. When you eat late, the food lies in your stomach. This will put pressure on your diaphragm, which then puts pressure on your airway, which helps to restrict airflow and causes snoring. So your last meal should be at least 3 1/2 hours before bed.
Don't drink any alcohol before bed . Alcohol eventually acts as a depressant so that it relaxes the muscles and senses. And as you've seen above this can trigger snoring at night. It can take at least 2 hours for just a small glass of wine to get out of your system. So don't drink any alcohol within 3 to 4 hours of bedtime.
You could lose some weight. Someone who is even a bit overweight is more likely to have a snoring problem than somebody who is not. This is because overweight people generally have more fat / flesh around the throat and chin so that the muscles find it harder to control. When you lie in bed the soft tissue then restricts your airways, thus causing snoring. Snoring is our worst enemy when you are sleeping with someone. Both of you need to get your rest.

Obstructive Sleep Apnea
Obstructive sleep apnea is increasingly loud breathing and snoring followed by disruptions in air intake often with bouts of wakefulness during which a person is gasping for air. If you are part of a couple this can be very disruptive to the both of you. This can lead to grumpiness, short tempers and an increase in marital discourse. In other words you will fight more, not good. Often a person who lives alone will not even be fully aware of their problem because they will awaken throughout the night just long enough to regain their breath.
This results in excessive drowsiness and a lack of focus throughout each day. This is only the beginning of the negative health consequences. Besides sleepiness, loud snoring and restlessness people often are irritable and struggle with bouts of depression.
This condition has been known to raise heart rate and blood pressure and cause night sweats because of the constant struggle for air. This deprivation of both sleep and oxygen in the long run increases health risks like heart disease, stroke, diabetes, depression and obesity. In fact some studies suggest that the risk of heart attack or death is 30% higher in sufferers.
